Frequently asked Questions

What is the difference between XPS and cheap polystyrene cornices?

Standard expanded polystyrene (EPS) is made of visible, grainy beads that look rough and absorb moisture. Our Extruded Polystyrene (XPS) features a high-density, closed-cell structure, providing an ultra-smooth, flawless finish that is completely waterproof and highly durable.

Yes! Because our locally manufactured XPS cornices are 100% moisture and mould-resistant, they are the ideal choice for high-humidity areas like bathrooms, kitchens, and covered patios.

Always use a water-based acrylic cornice adhesive or a high-tack construction adhesive. Never use solvent-based glues, contact adhesive, or superglue, as the chemicals will melt the polystyrene.

No priming is necessary! Our cornices come with a smooth, non-porous finish. You can paint them directly using any standard water-based (acrylic or PVA) paint. Avoid solvent or oil-based paints.

Buying local means you get premium factory-direct prices without paying for international shipping and import duties. It also ensures faster delivery times, stricter quality control, and helps support South African manufacturing jobs.

Step-by-Step XPS Cornice Installation Guide

Installing our high-density XPS cornices is a quick, clean, and beginner-friendly DIY project. Follow these five simple steps for a flawless finish:

  1. Measure and Prep: Calculate the total room perimeter and add 10% extra for cutting waste. Ensure your walls and ceilings are clean, dry, and free of loose paint or dust.
  2. Cut the Corners: Use a standard mitre box and a fine-toothed hand saw to cut your 45-degree corner joints. Always double-check your angles before cutting to ensure a tight, seamless fit.
  3. Apply the Adhesive: Apply a continuous bead of high-quality acrylic cornice adhesive along the top and bottom ridges on the back of the cornice.
  4. Press into Place: Align the cornice between the wall and ceiling. Press firmly along the entire length to ensure a strong bond. Hold in place for a few seconds until the adhesive grips.

Wipe and Fill: Use a damp sponge or cloth to immediately wipe away any excess adhesive that squeezes out. Use the same adhesive or a lightweight filler to neatly bridge any gaps at the joints. Once dry, your cornices are ready to paint with any water-based paint.
